Parkerizing PDF Print E-mail

Louisville Gun Works specializes in Black Zinc, Standard Grey Zinc, and Manganese Parkerizing. Parkerizing protects steel surfaces from corrosion and increases its resistance to wear. The U.S. Military realized the great qualities of this coating and decided that this was the perfect coating for their weapons.  We are able to duplicate this finish for a "Military Style" refinish. The benefits of a parkerized finish include:

  • Very durable in the elements
  • resistant to moisture resistant
  • Non-reflective

For an enthusiast that intends to use their firearms outdoors, parkerizing should be one of your considerations in how you maintain your firearm. Get a parkerizing quote for your gun.

An alternative to bluing
Parkerizing is a great alternative to bluing.  Bluing specialists are getting harder and harder to find.   Bluing is also a very
expensive process and depending on the amount of polishing involved in the process can compromise the sharp lines and engravings on the firearm which greatly affects the firearms value.

Our approach to parkerizing
We have spent countless hours refining our parkerizing process and meet - and hopefully - exceed your expectations of a parkerized finish.

Before the hot parkerizing process, we thoroughly clean the gun to remove greases and oils that will cause an uneven finish.

We always plug the pore of the barrel when parkerizing.  While others insist that the smooth bore will only take a thin layer of parkerizing that can be removed easily by cleaning with a stiff brush and by shooting, we have found that the parkerizing can actually etch the bore.  We take the extra time to protect your firearm.  We do not take any chances that could jeopardize the working condition of your firearm.

The final color after parkerizing
The final color of the finish is dependent on the alloy of the metal.  When the firearm comes out of the parkerizing tank, it is a dark, charcoal gray.  A black f inish can also be obtained through an additional process that gives the metal a true black color but, it will retain the "Sparkle" that is achieved through the traditional Zinc Parkerizing process.

Black Parkerizing
Get the true finish that you want on your gun.  Don't use a "Spray-On" finish to achieve that deep Sparkling Black finish.  We can achieve that highly desired finish through our Black Zinc Parkerizing process.
